What is NESTA?

The North Eastern Speech and Language Therapists Association was formed in 1978. NESTA’s current aim is to provide training and support for Speech and Language Therapists. This is carried out with the support of local departments, Special Interest Groups and local Training Institutions.

What does NESTA do?

• NESTA organizes COURSES within the North East.
This reduces the need for therapists to travel for training and brings down costs.
• Courses costs are subsidized by NESTA which allows course fees to be reduced .
• Priority on NESTA courses are given to members.
Places on NESTA courses are available to non-members at double the cost.
• The range of training opportunities is dependant on the needs and requests of the members. NESTA aims to offer a wide range of training opportunities suitable for generalist and specialist therapists and is increasingly offering more specialized courses covering all areas of therapeutic intervention. Our increasing associate membership means that we are also now offering more courses suitable for this membership group.

How is NESTA run and funded?

• NESTA is funded by membership fees.
• NESTA is run by an elected committee consisting of Chairperson, Vice-chair, Secretary and Treasurer who are Representatives from local Speech and Language Therapy Departments
• Working with the committee are the team of local Representatives who are volunteers from all participating Speech and Language Therapy Departments in the North East. Their role is to feedback information from members such as suggestions for courses. They also take on an active role in organizing or running courses.
• All departments are encouraged to send two representatives, covering Paediatric and Adult services in order to spread the workload and expertise. This means that all members can get the full benefit from NESTA.

There is an Annual General Meeting each May
